Lara-Cinisomo Delivered the Keynote Address at Conference on Perinatal Mental Health

Sandraluz Lara-Cinisomo, PhD, MONA Treasurer, delivered the keynote address at the inaugural conference on perinatal mental health in San Juan Puerto Rico titled “Bienestar emocional en la etapa perinatal” (translation: Emotional wellbeing in the perinatal period). The conference was held at San Juan Medical Science campus and was organized by Marianela Rodriguez Reynaldo, PhD, Ana Parilla Rodríguez, MD, Zilkia Rivera Orraca, PhD, and Debra L. Reuben, PhD (pictured here with Dr. Lara-Cinisomo, third from the right). Over 150 participants attended the conference. Marenid Planell (second from the right) served as historian.

Excellence in Graduate and Professional Teaching Award

Dr. Sandraluz Lara-Cinisomo is the recipient of the university-wide Excellence in Graduate and Professional Teaching Award, given to the faculty member who best showed sustained excellence and innovation in graduate or professional teaching and contributions to graduate or professional learning beyond classroom instruction. Criteria for the award include:

Innovative approaches to graduate or professional teaching
Positive impact on graduate or professional student learning
Other contributions to improve graduate or professional instruction, including engaging students in the classroom; developing courses and curricula, and mentoring graduate teaching assistants.

Dr. Lara-Cinisomo was also the recipient of the college-level award, making her a winner at the college and university level.

Janeth Padilla presented her research at the 2019 American Psychological Association Convention, which was held in Chicago between August 8th and August 11th.

Tani’s poster submission “Feasibility of assessing Pain Perception in Women with and without Postpartum Depression using fMRI, with Dr. Lara-Cinisomo as the principal investigator, and co-authored by Tanitoluwa Akinbode, a second-year master’s student in KCH, Ryan Larsen, Brad Sutton, and Hillary Schwarb” was accepted to the 8th World Congress on Women’s Health at the International Association of Women’s Mental Health conference in Paris, France, from March 5-8.
